Overview
This community-based foraging trip in Ban Nuea Nam, Surat Thani, offers an immersive experience in mangrove forest ecology, local culture, and sustainable living. Participants stay in village homestays or camps and engage with community members to learn about their occupations, traditional lifestyles, and how they utilize the mangrove ecosystem. Activities include exploring the forest during low tide, identifying and collecting herbs, gathering shellfish, participating in crab-shelling, and experiencing nighttime fiddler crab catching. The program also includes a boat tour through the mangroves, cultural visits to nearby temples and spiritual learning centers, and an Eco Print Workshop led by local artisans to learn natural dyeing techniques using plants. The trip concludes with reflective sharing, feedback for community development, and cultural exchange, fostering a deeper understanding of local wisdom, environmental conservation, and community-based tourism.
Day 1: Arrival and village introduction. Learn about local livelihoods, explore mangrove forest herbs, observe village activities, and catch fiddler crabs at night. Homestay or camp.
Day 2: Mangrove boat tour, shellfish foraging, village lunch, cultural site visits (Phra That Chaiya and Suan Mokkhaphalaram), dinner by Tapi River, return to homestay/camp.
Day 3: Eco Print Workshop with local career group, guided by a trainer from Wongsanit Ashram.
Day 4: Breakfast, group reflection, feedback sharing, and transfer back to Surat Thani city or airport.
